Indiana co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri has officially been hired as UCLA’s offensive coordinator. UCLA football and head coach DeShaun Foster announced the hiring Thursday afternoon.
“Tino Sunseri is a natural leader of young men and rising star in coaching,” Foster said. “He puts his quarterbacks in positions to succeed and it shows when you look at their production. Players will feed off his passion for development and I can’t wait to have him in our building.”
Indiana beat UCLA 42-13 in the Bruins’ Big Ten Conference debut Sept. 14 at the Rose Bowl Stadium, putting up 430 yards of total offense. Hoosiers quarterback Kurtis Rourke threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns.
The Hoosiers had unprecedented success this season, reaching 10 wins for the first time in program history. The team ranks second nationally in scoring offense with 43.3 points per game and is the best FBS team in terms of passing efficiency with a 179.1 rating.
Sunseri was a quarterback at Pittsburgh from 2008-2012 and won the 2010 Big East Conference championship with the Panthers. He finished his college career as No. 2 in Pitt history in total offense (8,591 yards) and No. 3 in passing yards (8,590).
He held assistant coaching roles at Florida State, Tennessee and Alabama before becoming the quarterbacks coach at James Madison in 2021. He spent three seasons there before joining Indiana as its co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
The Bruins’ previous offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, was let go Dec. 5 and reports of adding Sunseri to the staff quickly surfaced, but UCLA did not confirm the hiring until Thursday.
UCLA still has plenty of rebuilding to do on offense this offseason after losing multiple key players to the transfer portal, including quarterback Justyn Martin. Foster will likely look to the portal to add a new quarterback but does have options in freshmen Dermaricus Davis and Henry Hasselbeck, redshirt freshman Luke Duncan and redshirt senior Nick Billoups.
