“This show is based on the only good decision I ever made: falling for a nice Jewish boy,” Foster told Netflix's Tudum, which refers to the series as “semi-autobiographical.”
“But I realized that being happy is way harder than being miserable—there’s nothing to complain about," adds Foster, who converted to Judaism before marrying Simon Tikhman in 2019. "So, I created this show based on all the ways that finding the right person can be so hard.”
What is it about?
The title Nobody Wants This refers to a fictional podcast of the same name, hosted by sisters Joanne (Bell) and Morgan (Lupe). On the podcast, the sisters (and, occasionally, their mother) talk candidly about sex and relationships, which makes Joanne an all-the-more-unlikely match for Noah Roklov (Brody), a rabbi she meets through a mutual friend.
As their relationship progresses, Joanne and Noah attempt to navigate some of the difficulties that come with inter-faith dating, especially given Noah's status within his Jewish community.
Who's in the cast?
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody play star-crossed lovers Joanne and Noah, and each brings their unique brand of endearing humor to the roles. In the trailer, Bell is a snarky-but-vulnerable, while Brody's boyishness makes the whole concept of a Hot Rabbi sexy. (Also, fun fact: Erin Foster appeared on one season of The OC, the show that made Brody a household name.)
Justine Lupe (Succession's wonderfully apathetic Willa) and Timothy Simons (Veep's tall dork Jonah Ryan) add levity as Joanne's sister Morgan and Noah's brother Sasha, respectively.
Rounding out the cast are D'Arcy Carden, Bell's former Good Place co-star, and Sherry Cola, the breakout star of Joy Ride.
