On the second floor of the Moxy Hotel Times Square, I joined the crowd of Gen Z and Millennials gathered to watch our Super Bowl: the Love Island USA season 6 finale.
In the running for first place—and the $100,000 grand prize—were four couples: Serena and Kordell, Leah and Miguel, JaNa and Kenny, and Nicole and Kendall. And among the fans at Bar Moxy, it was very apparent who the favorites were…especially Serena and Kordell, the only couple to have been together since the first episode.
Indeed, the sentiment around the bar was that it'd be a given they'd win. So much so that one fan even told me they voted for Leah and Miguel because Kordell's famous brother—football player Odell Beckham Jr.—had posted about the couple on his Instagram. (“He has 17 million followers!”) And, well, it turns out fans were right to assume that Serena and Kordell would win. With their slow start and rocky Casa Amor experience, the two have gone through genuine challenges that make them deserving of the title and prize money.
The runners up were Leah and Miguel, which left JaNa and Kenny in third place and Nicole and Kendall in fourth. Leah and Miguel seemed surprised to be in second place, though it wasn't such a shock to viewers. With over 1 million followers, the first Love Island USA contestant to reach this marker, Leah has cultivated an expansive fan base that made sure she was in the final four.
