The touching moment was also captured by Karwai Tang, who discussed the “special” break in tradition with People. “When [Kate Middleton] usually comes in, she walks down the steps and into her seat. She doesn’t normally stand and wave," Tang said. “But she stood for a while and took it all in. For her to acknowledge it and take in the applause was special.”
Fans were particularly taken by Princess Charlotte, who many say looked “so proud” of her mom.
Back in June, Kate Middleton began her personal message to fans by expressing gratitude for their well-wishes. “I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months,” she wrote at the time. “It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.”
While she said she is “not out of the woods yet,” she says she wants to spend her personal time “on the things that give me energy and positivity” when she's feeling well enough. “I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal,” she wrote. “Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”
