Mayor Bill De Blasio Files Paperwork To Potentially Run For Governor

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has filed paperwork with the New York State Board of Elections to potentially run for governor.

De Blasio has formed the New Yorkers for a Fair Future committee, which will allow him to explore the possibility of launching a gubernatorial campaign.

The “Election Year” and “Office/District” spaces on the form were marked “TBD,” but the mayor could be eyeing a run to replace Gov. Kathy Hochul, who took office about 60 days ago when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James threw her name in the race last week.

New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has said he is considering running and formed an exploratory committee.

Long Island Congressman Tom Suozzi and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone are also believed to be eyeing a run.

On the Republican side, Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin, former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Andrew Giuliani have officially launched campaigns.
