NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Concert-goers were asked leave Central Park during the city’s big Homecoming Concert on Saturday evening due to inclement weather.
Earlier in the day, when asked about concerns about Hurricane Henri‘s approach, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the concert would go on as scheduled.
The concert began around 5 p.m.
Around 7:40 p.m., as Barry Manilow was performing, those in attendance were asked to leave after lightning was seen in the area.

Due to approaching severe weather, all those attending the event are to calmly move to the nearest exits and proceed to areas outside of the park. This is NOT an emergency.

The mayor initially took the stage and told concert-goers to return later in the evening.
